Most simply, why do you feel hurt?--it is because you are "selfish"!
Imagine if you already have a mature mind or heart, then if someone tries to hurt you, it may not work because you will not be affected negatively.
Therefore, getting hurt is, in a way, a very precious chance for you to realize how selfish, or how immature you are, and to re-examine your internal behavior and improve it, which would surely benefit your future. After all, what is the reason of our unhappiness? It is often because of our selfishness and immaturity--which seeks to get something from others more than to give to others. When something you expect (even something like respect, appreciation, praise, understanding, consideration, care, fair treatment, justice, nice welcome, greeting, smile, hospitality, etc.) doesn't come, you may get hurt. Why? That's because you don't have a selfless, or mature mind/heart which seeks to give to others more than to get/receive something from others. We do more or less have this mind and it is the cause of our unhappiness. We need to work on that part, which our conscience usually tells us to do.
