Thank God for religion (?)

This is a tough one.
Of course there's no doubt that religion gives us a lot of benefit for our lives.
However, religion is horrible in so many ways...

Religion gives people reason to be self-righteous with (or without) being aware of his being self-righteous. Religion gives justification for him to do evil in the name of God/or love. Thus, people loses humility, sincerity, honesty, authenticity, and genuineness.
Religion justifies hatred, anger, blaming, demanding, etc. in the name of God/or love, and it takes away peace, happiness, basic trust, openness and generosity--these values which religion generally supports.

Of course, the problem is not religion itself, but people who tries to practice it. But religion is creating people to be that way. Therefore, we need to, at least, be aware of this kind of mechanism behind religion. I have a hope, though, that as long as people humbly kneel down before God with honesty to his conscience, then there is a way God can guide him to the right direction. Thus, always the problem is us--when we lack honesty and humility.
